Changes in health status and mortality of the elderly population during the transition period in Poland

Since 1990 Poland has been transformed from central planned economy of communist political system toward democracy and marked economy. Simultaneously the ageing process of polish population is observed. Political and economical changes of ninetieth generally positively influenced to the health status and mortality of eldery population in Poland. Differences in these positive changes by gender are significant. The aim of the paper is examination and interpretation observed changes in health status, morbidity, disability, life expectancy, mortality and causes death of eldery population by gender in Poland at 1990-2004. Some problems of measuring of ageing process are also discussed.
